Our mission is to translate complex dog bite claims in the United States into clear, accessible settlement estimates. The Dog Bite Settlement Calculator is a data-driven tool that attorneys use, calibrated against real-world insurance payouts and legal precedents. With over 4.5 million dog bites occurring annually in the U.S., our calculator provides an essential first step in understanding the potential value of your claim.
Beyond the numbers, we help you understand the legal jargon you’ll encounter during a dog bite compensation. Our guides explain core concepts in simple terms.
The online tool was born from the vision of Julian Reyes and his uncle, Michael Reyes.
Julian Reyes: Technical Head

Julian Reyes is the lead software engineer and data architect for the Dog Bite Settlement Calculator. A native of San Diego, Julian earned his B.S. in Computer Science with a minor in Information and Data Sciences from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, graduating in 2017. He now lives in Silicon Valley and works as a principal engineer at LexiData Solutions, a legal-tech consultancy in Palo Alto, CA, that builds data-driven compliance and valuation tools.
The idea for this calculator sparked during family dinners with his uncle, Michael Reyes, a Los Angeles trial attorney. Julian was struck by how many dog bite victims struggled with opaque settlement offers from insurers. He saw an opportunity to bridge the gap between complex legal doctrines and public understanding. Pairing his uncle’s decades of courtroom experience with his own expertise in data modeling, Julian engineered a calculator that translates jurisdictional rules (strict liability vs. one-bite), damage types, and insurer behavior into a clear, reliable estimate.
Michael Reyes, Esq.-Legal Consultant

Michael Reyes is a veteran California trial attorney and the legal architect behind this calculator’s valuation engine. Admitted to the State Bar of California in 1998, Michael has spent over 25 years specializing in animal liability and complex personal injury claims. He is the founding partner of Reyes & Associates, LLP, a boutique plaintiff’s firm located at 6701 Center Drive West, Los Angeles, CA 90045.
After graduating with honors from UCLA School of Law in 1997, Michael dedicated his career to representing injury victims, particularly those affected by dog bites under California’s strict liability statute (Civ. Code §3342). Having seen firsthand how opaque insurance negotiations can be, he partnered with his nephew, Julian, to build a transparent tool that empowers the public. Michael’s deep experience in litigating cases involving scarring, psychological trauma (PTSD), and economic loss ensures the calculator’s logic reflects real-world insurer tactics and jury considerations. His firm, Reyes & Associates, has recovered over $50 million for injury clients since its founding in 2005.
